CONFERENCE INFO

Flow-induced vibrations and noise continue to cause problems in a wide range of industries from Civil Engineering, Aerospace and Marine Structures to Electric Power generation and Chemical Processing. The interdisciplinary meetings on Flow-Induced Vibration aim to bring together researchers working on the mechanisms responsible for vibrations with those in industry who are faced with either avoiding the problem through good design or finding solutions to specific problems. The series of FIV (Flow-Induced Vibration) conferences began at Keswick, England in 1973, focussing on the needs of the nuclear industry. Subsequent five FIV conferences held in England have evolved into major international events with a continually wider scope of papers in the field of fluid-structure interactions. The 7th International Conference FIV was held in Lucern, Switzerland in 2000 and the 8th FIV conference was held in Paris at the Ecole Polytechnique, in 2004 with about 200 participants from all continents. Following this conference, it was decided by the scientific committee of this conference series that the next meeting will be held in Prague, in 2008.

The FIV 2008 conference is the ninth in the series of the International Conferences on Flow Induced Vibration. These proceedings include 141 papers submitted from 28 countries.

We should like to thank the authors for providing papers of high quality and specifically for addressing such a wide spectrum of problems caused by fluid-structure interaction and flow-acoustic coupling. Sincere thanks to members of the international organizing committee for their valuable advice and support in evaluation of the large number of abstracts submitted. Particular thanks to Martina Nováková, Miluše Slováčková and Pavel Formánek for their efficient and cheerful administrative support and to the members of the local organizing committee for their continuous help in many aspects. The organizing committee is grateful to all the sponsors for their generosity.
